Surrounded by the beautiful waters of Pawna Dam and the Sahyadri mountain ranges, Tung Fort is famous for its narrow ridge, breathtaking panoramic views, and peaceful trekking experience.

History of Tung Fort
Tung Fort was built before 1600 AD and held strategic importance due to its location overlooking the trade routes connecting the Konkan region with the Deccan Plateau. The fort was later captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1657 and became part of the Maratha Empire.
The fort was mainly used as a watchtower to monitor enemy movements and protect nearby forts such as Lohagad, Visapur, Tikona, and Korigad. Although smaller than many other forts in Maharashtra, Tung Fort played a significant role in the Maratha defense system because of its commanding location.
Today, visitors can still see the remains of the fort walls, entrance gate, water cisterns, and the temple dedicated to Goddess Tungai.
