History of Tikona Fort
Tikona Fort has a rich history dating back several centuries. Historians believe the fort existed as early as the 7th–8th century and later came under the control of several dynasties, including the Nizamshahi rulers.
In 1657, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured Tikona Fort and transformed it into an important military outpost. Its strategic location allowed the Marathas to monitor movements across the Maval region and protect nearby trade routes. During the British period, the fort gradually lost its military importance but remains one of Maharashtra’s best-preserved trekking destinations today.
